RE: Selling and residency
Your residence / domicile is where you live - it depends on intent (as indicated by the links to your residential state as will be outlined in the book). You can own property anywhere. You may need to file an additional income tax return in states where you own property but are not your residence.
The idea to sell now, or in Jan., via installment sale is a good idea (above). Especially since the sale is to your daughter, a trusted buyer.
RE: Duggars and their 18 kids
Matthew B - it is true that the non-developed world is where the unchecked population growth is - and the existing population and birth rate there is 2 or 3 times the west, so any decline we have is more than offset by their increases. But every body on the planet makes it harder to sustain our current lifestyle and resource use.
Once it was predicted that the world population would stabilize around 4 bill, then 6 bill, now they say b Bill.... But who knows?? I fear we will see worse wars over territory and resources in our lifetimes.
RE: Duggars and their 18 kids
Altho it sounds like these folks have it together once the child is born, they are certainly not making any effort to limit their brood even now.
Good article about them . I looked it up 'cuz I knew nothing about them until this post.
Yes, maybe I am a spoiled American, but I think overpopulation is the root of most of the world's problems, from territorial wars, spread of disease, poverty, environmental degradation, violent competition for resources, illegal immigration, etc.
RE: Differance between Elite Suites, Mobile Suites and Sel...
I have a Mobile Suite and did a lot of research before buying.
Main difference is the level of interior finish, amenities, options available, and weight. Somewhat like different models / price ranges of a car.
You'd have to look at their brochure or web site to compare.
The select is the lightest and has a different frame to make it lighter. Also different axle, wheel system.
The MS and ES are same frame and wheel system and pretty similar options, but ES is finished nicer (in some people's opinions) and is therefore the heaviest. Some things that are options on MS are included on the ES.
As to weight, they all will be 14-18K lbs. plus cargo, so a 3/4T truck is not recommended. You'll almost certainly be overweight based on the charts. Most use at least a 1T and many prefer 1T dually or bigger.
RE: Duggars and their 18 kids
I'll get in trouble here...
I come from 6 kids myself, but today having a large family is not a responsible path to take, IMO.
Most of the time having many kids means the family is financially stressed (they don't need the latest video games, but they do need good food, school and clothing, lots of kinds of insurance, more transportation, etc.).
Also, more humans on the planet means increased use of ever scarcer resources and more sources of pollution.
We should be teaching family planning here (at home and at school) as ambitiously as we are trying to export it overseas - where there are plenty of very poor parents w/ large families. I think modern, educated, populations should think really hard about having more than 2-3 kids, even if it is true that once you have them, you love them. The kids deserve the best once you bring them into this world and most large families really struggle.
RE: Attention Photographers!
I passed this over a few times in my haste, but I just checked out the site and it looks terrific for photographers of all experience levels. I joined up!
Thanks for the link.
RE: Any problems with Firefox 3.0?
You CAN organize the bookmarks alphabetically. Just go to organize bookmarks, view, sort, and a drop down menu will show you a bunch of options including alpha sort.
I, too, am very happy w/ FF3. Now thinking of switching to MAC and I think they have their own browser so I'll have to re-learn that. But, Mac looks like it will be great. And I certainly know a lot of folks who LOVE it (including a lot of opinions here).
Does Chrome work w/ Mac? Or is it better to stick w/ their navigator? Or too early to decide?
Thanks.
RE: Been working my butt off
It is always interesting how business comes from the least expected places / people, at the most surprising times. Self employment is fun, isn't it?
RE: Mortgage Companies & Tearing Down Old Buildings
A. You have to read your note and deed of trust (or whatever the equivalent is in WI) to see if there are any restrictions.
B. May have to check county laws re permits for demolition, historic preservation (I hope not!), etc.
Logically what you say makes sense, but sometimes logic doesn't work w/ banks and county building depts.
RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?
I appreciate ALL the great photos here, and the little peeks at people's life, family, travels, etc. Even if I don't have time to comment, please know I am looking and liking!
So here's my little piece of life for the day.
The early morning walk which often includes Pier 39, the Wharf, the sea lions there, and fantastic views. This was today's best.

and then this afternoon, visiting a client's house w/ a lot of construction going on, here's a forceful, determined, Naked Lady (flower) poking her bloom up thru the concrete rubble. You cannot stop nature!

Have a great weekend.
RE: August 30th, it was evidently my turn to pay karma...
From a fellow (ex) rider, I wish you & Amy the speediest of recoveries, Lyman.
I rode for over 40 yrs. (w/ a few minor lapses) and had about 3 painful accidents and about 3 knock downs at slow speed. I did my share of dumb things, but I was never at fault in these mishaps (of course!). No broken bones but a few significant skin rashes, bruises and stiffness. One worried wife. We both always wore helmets (she was a passenger often) and one fall I gouged mine pretty good - was very glad to have it. And I heard a thousand stories like yours - not your fault but injured. We all know that being careful is not enough w/ all the other thoughtless and incompetent drivers out there.
Soooooo.... about 2 yrs ago I sold my last bike - much to my wife's relief. Fortunately, the thrill level was mostly past for me so giving it up was not that hard. I do miss the easy parking at times, tho.
Get well quickly. And good luck, best wishes, stay alert to all you riders out there.
RE: Hawaii Tour advise
Make friends w/ the locals. Hawaii people are the best (I married one)! They will give you all kinds of good advice, where to visit off the tourist track, where to get good "local food", cheap / free hula shows, etc. Just ask a lot of questions (politely) and you'll learn a lot and have great time.
Aloha.
RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?
We lucky people spent most of the weekend wine tasting in Livermore, CA, a lesser known area w/ some great wineries. 43 wineries w/ shuttle buses between them so no driving. We were able to visit maybe 10 of them in 2 afternoons. All had food, live music, and the weather was terrific. Most of these shots were done by my wife as I was "tasting".
One of the 10(?) - Lovely landscaping.

Crazy characters. Women love outlaws! They were a good show even between their gunfight exhibitions.

This is so fun, sharing photos. Pardon my space hogging, but it seems like it makes sense to tell a little story. I try to limit myself. I don't want to put up 20 shots at once.
RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?
Jaybird - Morro Bay is a great place ... even if it is cold in the summer. That's what coastal CA is all about.
You should'a looked up Firedude - that's where he is a camp host, I think.

No, I didn't take this (darn!) but it is a great back-lit shot, isn't it?
This is from the SF Chronicle photog who is covering Burning Man, a big party in the NV desert that happens every year for a week ending on Labor Day. I haven't been there, but lots of friends have, and they say it is life changing. It is also hot and dusty.... But I'll make it one day.
Here's a link to other shots from there (no indecency here, it's a major paper). Burning Man Photos

Shot on the way to a party in North Beach. Had a little time to kill so took the long way on a warm evening.
